Katibawasan Falls, Camiguin Island, Northern Mindanao
Katibawasan Falls is
one of the treasured gifts nature has blessed the island of Camiguin according
to the locals, located at the foot of Mt. Timpoong, Barangay Upper Pandan, approx. 5 km (3.1 mi) southeast of Municipality of Mambajao, the Falls cascades
250 ft (76 m) down to a pool surrounded by orchids and ferns. An invigorating
dip on the pool is popular especially on warmer days and several hiking trails
are within the park. The falls rushes down into its green pool that is really
refreshing for a good swim. Tourist are welcome to swim. It is an ideal place
to cool off during hot and humid days. There is however an entrance fee of 30
pesos per person since the falls is maintained by the province. Giant ferns
decorate the surrounding land, carpeting the spaces and huge trees and dropping
vines provides the backdrop the falls. In illonggo dialect the word
"Katibawasan" means: "To have overcome".
