Marabut Island, Samar, Philippines
Marabut is a Philippine municipality in the province of Samar (Western Samar) in Region VIII Eastern Visayas which belongs to the Visayas group of islands. The municipality Marabut is seated about 70 km south-south-east of province capital City Of Catbalogan and about 588 km south-east of Philippine main capital Manila. Marabut is a fifth class municipality. According to the 2010 census, it has a population of 15,115 people. Its coast stretches more than twenty kilometers along the San Pedro Bay and Leyte Gulf. During the early Spanish Era, the municipality of Marabut was a mere sitio of Basey, which evolved into a barrio.
